If you’re browsing student desks, then you may as well throw student desk chairs into your to get list. Before we get into specific chairs I recommend, I must first preface this post by saying there are two totally different categories of chairs: those for children’s desks and those for student’s desks. As the kids versions aren’t going to require as much analysis, I’ll just talk about chairs for the high school or college age.

The characteristics to treasure are comfort, proper elevation, style, price, and sturdiness. You want comfort because not only is this a place to sit, it’s a place for studying for extended hours. If you’re going to log major hours in any one chair, it must be comfortable or else it will detract from studies. One tip I have for you is to look into an ergonomic student desk chair.

Elevation is super important consideration. Ever try sitting on a desk where you weren’t high enough? Not only is it uncomfortable, but it’s also impracticable. How are you going to write or type if the bottom of your forearms hits the desk before it gets to the paper or laptop? For this reason, adjustable chairs are a good bet. If you go with a fixed height, by all means measure and compare with a chair at home and your potential student desk.

If you go beyond the utilitarian, you’ll want to consider style. A high-tech, modern student desk with a 1970 unfinished chair is really going to clash in any setting. If a chair is cheap enough for the time being, use it as a placeholder but not a long term solution. Theme and style should run together. Obviously if this isn’t important to you, drop it.

Price is obvious. With all the factors in play, you want the best student desk chair for the money. If you’re on a budget, you may have to sacrifice in some aspect but I highly recommend comfort as your A1 priority. Believe me, it’s worth an extra $40-$60 for a great seat over the next several years. You’ll save in back pain and neck pain and at the same time focus better on your texts.

Last, don’t buy anything unless it’s sturdy. You don’t need something carved out of a 500 foot oak from Paul Bunyan’s Manufacturing Co., but the last thing you want is some do it yourself assembly that ends up with a few cheap nuts and bolts supporting you. You want a strong, light metal or heavy duty wood to prevent the dreaded fall apart.

Here are some “student desk chairs” I think are worth considering:

The Dorra Bonded Leather Task Chair from Office Depot is a best seller and at $79.99, the Dorra is a steal.

Wal-Mart sells the Captain’s Chair for $106. Has a very rich feel to it. Decent comfort with high style and ok price.

OfficeMax has the Ambretta Guest Chair for $69.99. You’ll literally sit on air and get a cushion to boot. Nice deal.

Amazon has the High Back Contemporary Executive Swivel Ergonomic Chair on sale for $71.99. Hard to beat this deal.

Hope this helped your decision. If you have any questions or suggestions, let us know. Here’s hoping you find the right student desk chair.
